The Play Guide

A few simple pieces. A world of possibilities.

Start with the toy and the child.

Read the individual toy's age guidance and warnings before choosing an activity. A child's interests matter, but they do not replace the manufacturer's age restrictions. Some toys contain small parts, cords or other components unsuitable for younger children.

Build, balance, begin again.

With suitable stacking toys, begin with a low tower or a short bridge. Explore which shapes balance together. Leave room for a new idea, and let taking it apart be part of the game. Explore building and stacking toys.

Find a pattern.

Choose a puzzle or sorting activity that suits the toy's intended use. Compare shapes, describe colours and take turns finding the next piece. There is no need to race. Explore puzzles and sorting.

Bring curiosity into everyday play.

Look at how a fastening works, compare the positions of pieces or invent a story around a familiar shape. Ask open questions and allow time to try an answer. Explore learning and discovery.

A little care before and after.

Use toys as intended and follow all instructions. Check for damaged or loose parts before play. Keep small components away from children for whom they are unsuitable. Put pieces away together and consult our materials and care guide.
